Another high-profile player has officially been ruled out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, joining Paul Pogba, Diogo Jota and N’Golo Kante in a list of key footballers set to miss the tournament in Qatar.

Juve Boss Blames Pogba For Latest injury?

Germany international Timo Werner, who is a regular for the 2014 World Cup champions, will not be available for selection after sustaining a serious ankle injury this week.

The striker has enjoyed an impressive start to the season following his return to RB Leipzig after a two-year spell at Chelsea, having contributed to 13 goals in 16 appearances in all competitions.

Werner had to be replaced in Leipzig’s 4-0 away win over Shakhtar Donetsk this week in the UEFA Champions League, with the ligament damage he suffered set to keep him out of action until 2023, ruling him out of the World Cup.

The 26-year-old is among the more experienced players in the Germany set-up, having amassed 55 appearances since his debut in 2017 and scoring 24 goals.

Werner joins a long list of big-name players who are set to miss the trip to the Middle East, with France preparing to be without star midfielders Pogba and Kante, who were important to their country's success in 2018.
