According to 90min, the Blues want to test Napoli's resolve in the upcoming transfer window as they look to bring in their top striking target as soon as possible.
After the off-season market closed, it is believed the west Londoners shifted their focus to other quality strikers, with the likes of Ivan Toney, Santiago Gimenez and Lautaro Martinez touted as possible alternatives to Osimhen for the two-time European champions.
However, with contract talks between Napoli and Osimhen having reportedly stalled, coupled with the TikTok controversy involving the striker earlier this season, and it now appears unlikely the Lagos native will extend his contract with Gli Azzurri.
This has opened the door for Chelsea to potentially lure the Nigeria international to Stamford Bridge in 2024, and while a move at the end of the season seems the most likely outcome, the same report claims that the Premier League giants will bid in January anyway as they try get a march on other suitors.
It is also believed the six-time English champions will have to pay more than the €121 million (R2.4 billion) they forked out for Enzo Fernandez during last campaign's mid-season window.
