A former Al Ahly forward has opened up about his relationship with Pitso Mosimane, revealing the "bet" he won with the South African tactician before his departure from the Cairo club.

Despite the Kagiso native's success with the Club of the Century during his time at the Cairo International Stadium, there are some who played under Mosimane during his time at Ahly who were not fans of him.

Saleh Gomaa is one of them, having publicly slammed the 59-year-old in September last year, and Ahmed Yasser Rayan could perhaps also have shared a similar sentiment because of his lack of prominence under the former Bafana Bafana head coach.

However, despite his lack of minutes under Mosimane, the striker has now insisted that the former Mamelodi Sundowns manager was honest with him about what he needed to do to get more playing time with the record African champions.

"I spoke with Mosimane and told him that I only wanted a chance to play," Rayan told Sada El-Balad TV channel.

"He made it clear that it would be difficult for me to start games at Al Ahly, so I asked him to go out on loan and I told him that I would be the league's top scorer.

"He had doubts back then, but when I scored 15 goals that season, he said that I had won the bet we had and promised me game time, but it was unfortunate that he left the club.

"The day I left Al Ahly was very difficult for me after spending 18 years at the club."
