The 59-year-old spent just under two years in charge of the Red Devils following his appointment in October 2020, claiming an impressive five pieces of silverware in Egypt before his departure in July 2022.

Mosimane oversaw 99 matches at the club, according to Transfermarkt, winning 65 of them and losing just 10 times.

In a statement released by Ahly detailing the events leading up to the South African's exit, the board said he had "requested to leave" even though the club's wish was for him to continue in Cairo.

Sayed Abdel-Hafiz, the Red Devils' former director of football who left in August this year after five years, has now praised the ex-Sundowns head coach's game management.

"Mosimane worked with us for about two years, and we won continental titles with him in particular," he said on Abu Dhabi Sports Channel.

"We won two African Champions League championships, the African Super Cup twice, the Egypt Cup, and a bronze medal in the Club World Cup as well.

"I enjoyed working with Mosimane, and at the level of match management, he is a coach, high, high, very, very high.

"I was happy to work with him, but this is football, sometimes there is a change in faces, ideas and style, and he is one of the great coaches at the level of Africa."
