Despite being heavily linked with the Nigeria national team, it seems Pitso Mosimane will not be appointed as their next manager before the Africa Cup of Nations, with the Super Eagles having now submitted their provisional squad for the looming continental showpiece.

Earlier this month, Mosimane said that he was keen on venturing back into international coaching and claimed to take a liking to the three-time African champions.
Rumours have since linked the Kagiso native with the post, and while the Nigeria Football Federation may still eventually appoint the three-time CAF Champions League winner to try and revive the west African powerhouse, it appears this will not happen before the AFCON in the Ivory Coast.
There have been growing calls from the Nigerian public for Jose Peseiro to be sacked, but it looks like it will be the former Al Ahly boss who will lead them come January 2024 as the Portuguese tactician has named his 40-man provisional squad that will contest Africa's biggest prize.
Most of the names selected by the 63-year-old are to be expected, with recently crowned CAF Men's Player of the Year Victor Osimhen headlining the squad.
However, one notable absentee is Gift Orban. The 21-year-old burst on to the European scene last season with Gent, and has continued his fine goalscoring form for the Belgian side this season, netting 12 goals in 27 matches, but has been left out.

CAF member associations are not obligated to submit provisional squads, but by 3 January 2024, all participating nations will need to have submitted their official 23-man squads for the tournament to the organisation.
