Twitter reacts to potential SA Tourism x Spurs deal
As mentioned, SA Tourism is said to have proposed a three-year deal worth R910 997 814.75 to sponsor one of the English Premier League's big six, Tottenham Hotspur.
The presentation revealed by the Daily Maverick stated that in exchange for the investment, SA Tourism would receive branding on the Spurs kit, interview backdrops, match-day advertising, as well as training camps here in SA, and free access to tickets and hospitality at the state-of-the-art Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The potential deal received plenty of backlash on the Twitter Timeline. A number of tweeps mentioned that the money should be invested in local sports, while others pointed out the poor timing of the potential deal.

Sports Presenter Andile Ncube reacted to the news by pointing out that majority of the clubs in the DStv Premiership struggle with attracting sponsorships while a big club such as Spurs gets the help from the SA government.
Here's what the timeline had to say:
Spending 40% of Tourism SA's entire marketing budget on @SpursOfficial , irrespective of supposed reach is reckless. With clearly not enough budget to leverage it's suicidal.

No sponsorship strategist would sign this off, for business reasons. 2/2
SA tourism wanting to spend more than 1 billion on Tottenham Hotspur when townships are lacking recreational activity structures is hilarious to me

SA Tourism Ministry wants to sponsor Tottenham Hotspur for R1bn? Firstly I’m outraged as an Arsenal fan but secondly the nerve to attempt to spend such amount of money when the country is literally in an economic meltdown is something bizarre and tone deaf ??

As a sports industry in SA we should all be strongly condemning this supposed investment by @S_A_Tourism in Spurs.

I cannot imagine any rights and benefits package @SpursOfficial can offer that outweighs other sponsorship opportunities available to SA Tourism. 1/3
Scenes when SA Tourism uses R1 Billion to sponsor Tottenham Hotspurs "take a sho't left to South Africa" ads on stadium flashing, then tourists flood to this country only for them to experience 6 hours of loadshedding every day. ??????

This proposed SA Tourism/Brand SA Tottenham Hotspurs sponsorship deal is complete idiocy.

Lindiwe needs to take several damn seats. At best she’s been a grossly incompetent minister in this portfolio, so why the rush to do this on the eve of being sacked?
Dear @LindiweSisuluSA … Sincere question: Would you invite people to your home if you have no electricity & water? Then how would investing in Tottenham Hotspur boost tourism in SA when we don’t have water & electricity, DBN beach’s are a sewer, crime is high, etc?

There’s 16 @OfficialPSL teams and most struggle with sponsors and everyday we point fingers at teams like @Moroka_Swallows for having money issues yet this big brand that’s been part of SA fabric for so long gets no help but @SpursOfficial do ?
