Cape Town City venture into padel

Cape Town City stars and boss Eric Tinkler took their minds off football for a bit, by swapping their boots for sneakers and rackets to play some padel.

Padel, the racket sport born in Mexico, has transcended its borders and captured the imagination of many athletes globally, gaining plenty of traction in Cape Town.

The sport has been embraced by many football legends around the world, including Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, Brazilian superstar Neymar and English football icon David Beckham.

"Padel is a doubles racket discipline that combines elements of tennis and squash, and is played on a shrunken-down court with glass walls and a lower net," states euronews.com's culture section, when reporting on the rising phenomenon of the sport.

Cape Town City always try and find a way to market their club better in circles outside of football and recently partnered with the Mother City-based Racket & Ball Club:

"City’s official Padel partner Racket and Ball Club will be bringing together the energy of football and the finesse of Padel, as the club expands its horizons in sports leisure," wrote City on Instagram, captioning a video of their players hitting the padel court.
