UP-AND-COMING gospel singer Pulane Maphari knows what she wants.
The musician quit her job as a chemical engineer of 11 years to pursue music.
Pulane, from Welkom in the Free State, released her debut album, The Restorative Breath of Life, two months ago.
She told SunBuzz she’d always known she’d eventually minister the gospel.
“Even though I had a career that was very different from music, I knew I’d quit it one day and venture into music.
“Last year felt like the right time to finally quit and do what my heart had wanted for years.
“I resigned from work and went into studio to work on the album.”

The album is dedicated to God because she wants to honour him.
“The Restorative Breath of Life is a 13-track album and I wrote 12 of those songs. They’re about my relationship with God.
“I sing about His power and forgiveness. I also gave it this name because I wanted the spirit of the Lord to breathe life into people’s lives.”
Pulane said she’s looking forward to working with other gospel musicians in the future.
“Now that I’ve released this album on my own, and people had a taste of who Pulane is, I’m looking forward to working with other gospel stars.
“And from the way I’m getting support from people, it looks as if collaborations with other singers might happen soon.
“My first music video also has almost 30 000 views on YouTube.”
