VOLKSWAGEN’S new Tiguan range is here.

We took the Tiguan R-Line for a good spin and it impressed.

Because the R-Line is the in-thing in Mzansi.

Like all other VW cars of late, the car is more powerful in handling and performance, and is comfortable and connected more than ever before.

VW said the new Tiguan shows that intelligent technology has exceptional abilities.

SUV is redefined in the Tiguan range, and the R-Line, being the premium of the range, shows off.

If you ever doubted that VW is serious about continuously reinventing itself, this car will convince you.

The front is dynamic with its precise lines all the way to its shoulders, as if screaming its strengths in innovative power, control and uncompromising functionality to the sceptics.

The Tiguan R-Line boasts the R-Line “Black Style” package. The radiator grille bears the fine R-Line logo in two colours. While the outer strips are chrome, the two inner strips are in high-gloss black.

“R” is everywhere to confirm that you are not in just any Tiguan, but the R-Line.

I loved the black mirror covers and window border strips, along with the 90% tinted rear side and back windows, well-matched with its Suzuka 20-inch alloy wheels, taking its beauty a step up.

The interior of the new Tiguan is a wonder and most welcome to forward-thinkers, according to the brand.

The cockpit is so friendly. Everything is within reach. The 10.25-inch infotainment screen is so sensitive that it will sense your motion while your hand manoeuvres as you drive and switch to the next song.

Show it to a techno fan like my son and you will never hear the end of it as he keeps waving back and forth past the songs, much to the irritation of everyone in the car.

We decided to go paint Pietermaritzburg blue with our R-Line and what an impressive toy it is!

While bold people express their love for the car, you have more reserved people who admire it in silence.

It is a car you should get if you want to boost your confidence and earn some respect on the road.

It shines in its full splendour during the day and also at night with the optional IQ.Light and LED matrix headlights.

You will also love the design of cornering lights, which are complemented with the dynamic Light Assist and new tail lights. The lights automatically sense coming lights, dim beams and distribute light accordingly.

You have 30 colours to set for your ambient lighting inside your car and if that is not going to cheer you up, nothing will.

There is optional Emergency Assist which intervenes in a medical emergency when it detects that the driver is no longer active, and attempts to reactivate them. If this is not successful, it brings the vehicle to a controlled standstill within the limits of the system and can thus also possibly prevent an accident.

There are many more features, including optional Adaptive Cruise Control.

Many manufacturers are realising that they need to up the game in making their cars look good, but VW can show them the importance of a good sound system to make that car meet the needs of the driver.

The optional sound system from Harman Kardon is powerful. It’s made for lovers of quality sound who don’t just want to hear music when driving, but celebrate it.

Balanced treble and precise bass await you. Harman Kardon delivers incredible sound in your Tiguan.

Tiguan prices start from R528 800 for the Tiguan 1.4 TSI 110kW six-speed DSG all the way up to R720 700 for the Tiguan R-Line 2.0 TSI 162kW seven-speed DSG.
