A 39-YEAR-OLD businessman from KZN was gunned down at his business premises in the Bergville CBD on Tuesday, 19 April.
According to Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala, at about 6pm, an off-duty cop heard three gunshots while sitting in his vehicle close to the scene.
“The officer noticed two men running and immediately gave chase with his vehicle, until the men jumped over a fence,” Gwala said.
“He pursued them on foot and was soon joined by three other off-duty officers who were in close proximity.
“The Bergville station commander quickly put together a team and backed her officers up,” Gwala said.
She said private security officials also joined the chase until two suspects were traced and arrested.
Cops found a 9mm pistol that had five rounds of ammunition in the possession of the suspects.
“The businessman succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
“The swift response and bravery of off-duty police officers and everyone who was involved in the chase are commended,” Gwala said.
