THE nine-year-old boy was happy to give cold water to the thirsty stranger at the gate on Sunday.
He didn’t know his kindness would cost him his life.
The lifeless body of Alwande Mkhize from Mabhudle Village in Eshowe, KZN was later found with stab wounds in a small bush a few metres away from his home.
His mum, Ngitheni Mkhize (42), told Daily Sun she has hardly slept since his death.
She said the entire family is devastated.
“We pray police will soon find the murderer who is the cause of our pain.
“Alwande was a respectful boy with the heart of an angel. He would do anything you asked him to,” said Ngitheni.
She said she was at church when Alwande went missing. The young boy and his two siblings had chosen to stay at home instead of going to church.
She said his three-year-old brother told them an unknown man asked them for water when they were playing in the yard.
“Alwande went to give him the water and never came back,” said Ngitheni.
Alwande was a grade 2 pupil at Sphezi Primary School.
“He wanted to be a traffic cop when he grew up,” said his mum.
KZN police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane said: “The motive for the killing is unknown. Eshowe police are investigating a case of murder. No arrest has been made.”
