Newcastle United 4-1 Paris Saint-Germain

Newcastle United showed Paris Saint-Germain no respect with a dominant 4-1 victory in Group F on Wednesday night.

Sandro Tonali slotted back in for the Magpies and replaced Elliott Anderson, whilst Warren Zaire-Emery, Lucas Hernandez, Manuel Ugarte and Goncalo Ramos returned for PSG.

Newcastle took just 17 minutes to go ahead as Miguel Almiron pounced on a rebound following a spill by Gianluigi Donnarumma to tuck into the far corner.

The Ligue 1 giants were set apart again minutes gone after Dan Burn headed in a floated ball from Bruno Guimaraes which went to the Video Assistant Review (VAR) before being approved as there were hints of offside.

PSG lost further ground five minutes in the second half when Sean Longstaff thunderous shot proved too strong for Donnarumma, though Hernandez pulled one back with a stern finish later on.

Newcastle crushed any hopes of a comeback when Jacob Murphy set-up Fabian Schar to complete the rout against one of the tournament’s favourites.

RB Leipzig 1-3 Manchester City

Manchester City registered back-to-back wins in the UEFA Champions League in Group G courtesy of a 3-1 victory over RB Leipzig on Wednesday.

Josko Gvardiol started against his former club as City ran the changes from the loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers with Rodri, Rico Lewis, Bernardo Silva and Jack Grealish amongst the alterations too.

The Citizens made the breakthrough around the half-hour mark when Phil Foden connected with Lewis after making a late run and finished off.

Leipzig were back in it barely minutes in the second half as Lois Openda beat Manuel Akanji to a 50-50 tussle before he fired in off the post.

That didn’t bother the reigning champions a great deal and had substitute Julian Alvarez come up to make it 2-1 before Jeremy Doku put the icing on the cake at the death.

FC Porto 0-1 FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona maintained their perfect start to remain on top of Group H following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over FC Porto.

Youngster Lamine Yamal was given his competition debut by the Catalans, who also welcomed back Ronald Araujo and Oriol Romeu from Friday’s win over Sevilla

Barcelona were dealt an early set-back after Robert Lewandowski sustained an ankle knock and was duly withdrawn for Ferran Torres.

Following a tight opening, the Blaugrana put their noses in front on the brink of halftime when Ilkay Gundogan met Torres who needed no second invitation.

No further goals from either side followed, though Barca ended with ten players after Gavi saw red for a second bookable offence as matters concluded in Porto.

Celtic 1-2 Lazio

Lazio picked up their maiden win in Group E and moved into second spot courtesy of a late 2-1 victory over Celtic in Glasgow.

Manager Brendan Rodgers welcomed back Joe Hart and Nathaniel Phillips, with Ciro Immobile, Matias Vecino and Patric restored for the visitors.

The Scottish giants took the early initiative when Kyogo Furuhashi finished off a delivery from Matt O’Riley with the Italians caught napping.

Lazio were back on equal footing right on the half-hour mark as Matias Vecino made the most of a loose ball following Alessio Romagnoli’s corner-kick.

The Serie A boys stole the win in the dying minutes when Spaniard veteran Pedro got space to head in Matteo Guendouzi’s delivery.

Borussia Dortmund 0-0 AC Milan

Borussia Dortmund got their first point in this campaign following a hard-fought goalless draw against AC Milan at the BVB Stadion.

There were limited end-to-end action in the final third particularly in the opening spell which then concluded goalless on the back of the tense all-round activity.

This sequence of play remained following the break and in the end both sides had to settle for a point each in Group F.

Red Star Belgrade 2-2 Young Boys

Red Star Belgrade collected their first point in Group G following a late 2-2 draw against Young Boys in an entertaining encounter.

The host made the breakthrough late in the first half courtesy of Cherif Ndiaye following a cutback, with a pitch-side review giving the approval after it was initially disallowed for offside.

However, the advantage were cancelled a little from the break as Filip Ugrinic made a run from deep and applied a first-touch before nestling the net.

Young Boys were in front in the final quarter when Cedric Itten beat Omri Glazer from the spot as Nasser Djiga was flagged for handling in the area.

As the Swiss side threatened victory, the host bagged the equaliser with minutes to go when Osman Bukari beat the offside trap to fire in from the tightest of angles and left the spoils shared.
