With Real Madrid said to have presented Kylian Mbappe with a new offer, the club have now reportedly back-tracked on one of their promises to the French superstar.

According to Foot Mercato, Mbappe has reached an agreement to join Los Blancos after holding talks with the club over the last few days. The report claims that the 25-year-old finally agreed terms over a free transfer at the end of the season in a move that would bring the saga to a long-awaited conclusion.

It is said that the forward struck an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain to waiver his loyalty bonus worth £69 million (R1.6 billion) in order to seal a more amicable exit from the Parc des Princes.

The reported agreement rules out a move to the Premier League, where Mbappe was linked with a sensational transfer to Liverpool. 

The Athletic also reports that the Spanish gaints have presented the marksman with a lower salary offer than the one they initially had in January 2022.

Although more recent reports claim that an agreement in principle is in place between Mbappe and Real, the Madrid team were said to have set a deadline of mid-January for the player to fully make up is mind.

The Les Bleus was reportedly offered a €130 million (R2.6 billion) signing bonus and a salary of €26 million (R533 million) per year in 2022.   

With Mbappe and Real having played cat and mouse for several windows, Carlo Ancelotti's side will reportedly turn their sights to Erling Halaand if the Frenchman snubs a switch to the Santiago Bernbeu again, according to AS.

The Spanish outlet claims that Haaland's release clause for a foreign club is estimated to be around €100 million (R2 billion), while it will be double that amount should a rival Premier League team be interested in the Norwegian.
