Lionel Messi has now reportedly made a big decision on his club future.

With the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner contracted to Inter Miami until 2025, he has decided he will reject any offer to renew his deal in the US in a bid to return to his home nation, according to El Nacional.

The Argentine is said to want to retire at boyhood club Newell's Old Boys, from whom he was snapped up by FC Barcelona at the age of 13.

Messi has been vocal in expressing his desire to once more represent the Rosario-based club, and the expiration of his contract in Miami in 2025 could signal the ideal opportunity to do so.

After deciding against extending his contract at PSG earlier this year, the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner reportedly flirted with the idea of going back to the Argentine club at which he scored 234 goals in 176 matches at youth level.

However, he decided otherwise back then, with Messi having often expressed concern about the lack of safety in the South American country, previously stating that he wants his family "to grow up in a calm place, being able to enjoy life with security" in an interview with TyC Sports.

He instead made the move to join forces with David Beckham in Major League Soccer, simultaneously linking up with former Barca teammates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba at Inter Miami.

The Argentina captain has since made waves in America, helping his new team claim the Leagues Cup trophy and a runner-up medal in the US Open Cup.
