Manchester United have reportedly made a shock contract offer to a top European manager to replace Erik ten Hag. 

The Red Devils have endured a mixed season so far, having lost five times in the Premier League this season – the joint-most by any team in the top half of the league.

Performances have also been questionable, with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Antony coming under fire for an apparent lack of output.

The team's UEFA Champions League form has also been murky as they have lost to every team in their group so far, namely Bayern Munich, Galatasaray, and Copenhagen. 

As such, manager Erik ten Hag's future has become the subject of increasing speculation.

Furthermore, the arrival of new part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is expected inspire several changes in the team, with the British billionaire reportedly set to see oversee all footballing operations once his 25% stake in the club is officially acquired. 

There are now reports that Ten Hag's job is on the line, and that the club has identified his potential replacement.

According to Spanish journalist Juanma Castano, United have tabled an offer to Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti to step into the helm at Old Trafford next season.

The Italian tactician is now down to the last seven months of his contract in Madrid, with his future being the subject of growing speculation as he is yet to be presented with an offer to extend his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu.

While there are also extensive reports that he could become Brazil's national team coach at the end of the season, no pen has been put to paper on any agreement. 

Two players in Manchester, however, are said to be huge admirers of the Los Blancos mentor.

Castano claims that Casemiro and Alejandro Garnacho would be particularly pleased with the appointment, with the former having worked with him in Spain.
