Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has pleaded with one of his stars to stay at the club amid serious interest from other teams.

The Red Devils have enjoyed a good spell of form since just before the 2022 FIFA World Cup kicked off, winning nine consecutive games across all competitions prior to their 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace last week.

One of the main figures leading this charge was Marcus Rashford, who has amassed an impressive 23 goal contributions in 28 matches for United so far this season.

Rashford's future has been a hot topic, though, with only 18 months left on his current deal thanks to a mandatory one-year extension that United recently exercised.

Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid have been linked with the in-form star, with the French club's president Nasser Al-Khelaifi having previously admitted that signing the Englishman on a free deal would be a hard proposal to turn down.

United, however, are understood to be desperate keep the 24-year-old on their books, and are reportedly in talks with the player's representatives over a new deal.

At a press conference ahead of the Manchester club's Carabao Cup semi-final clash against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night, Ten Hag explained that they "need him" if they are to achieve the success they are after, in what some have interpreted as a big plea to the forward to sign another extension.

"I think he understands Man United is his club, that's first. But also, in this environment, in this team, I think he is playing his best football," the Dutch manager said, per the Metro.

"Then, I would say this is the best place to be because we want to construct the best team, first in England, then in Europe, then in the world.

"He is improving and that is about him because he is giving 100% energy. I think also in this team he can bring his qualities.

"This team is constructed so that his qualities come to the fore and I think he knows that.

"But definitely he is important for us, and if we want to get the success we want, we need him."
