Barcelona are now said to have shown serious interest in signing Mason Greenwood on a permanent deal.

One of the biggest clubs in world football has now reportedly made a move for on-loan Manchester United star Mason Greenwood.

The Englishman is now on the shortlist of FC Barcelona, who view him as a player they can land in a potentially low-cost deal, according to SPORT.

As the Spanish club waits to find out how much wiggling room they will have in the upcoming transfer window because of their recent Financial Fair Play struggles, they are reported to have made contact with the Red Devils, but without committing to any deal just yet.

The 22-year-old's eye-catching LALIGA performances since joining Getafe at the beginning of the season is said to have made him a candidate to bolster the Catalan club's attack next season at a low price, given his contract with United is set to expire in 2025.

Barca are also said to be planning on making space for the attacker by selling some of their current offensive options, such as Raphinha and even Robert Lewandowski.

Greenwood has captured the attention of a number Spanish sides, including Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, with the bright showings that have seen him score eight goals and pick up five assists in 26 matches for Los Azulones.

This comes after charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, levelled against him after his arrest in January 2022, were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February 2023, which opened the possibility of a return to football for the England international.

After an internal investigation, parent club United decided that he would not relaunch his career at the Manchester club but committed to helping him do so elsewhere.

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS crew acquiring a 27.7% stake in the club and control of sporting operations, Greenwood's future at the club remains up in the air.

The British billionaire has admitted that a decision will be made on the forward at the end of the season, with Getafe, among other sides, also said to have shown interest in signing the player permanently.
