A Brazilian chief has explained why signing Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar would be a "problem" amid long-standing rumours the 30-year-old could one day return to his native country.

Neymar's future at the Parc des Princes has looked murky at times, with the most recent potential departure coming last year when the player was believed to be on the unwanted list at the club after PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi publicly refused to rule out his exit.

In June 2022, the Qatari mogul told RMC Sport: "A possible departure of Neymar this summer? What I can tell you is that we expect all players to do a lot more than last season [2021/22]. A lot more!

"They all have to be 100%. Obviously we weren't good enough to go far. For next season the objective is clear, to work every day, to give 200%. To give everything we have for this jersey.

"You have to be humble again. You have to change to avoid injuries, suspensions and fouls that change a game."

His sentiments were then followed up by more claims that Les Parisiens were willing to let him depart, but offloading him reportedly proved difficult due to his hefty salary and long contract, with Chelsea and Newcastle United having been rumoured to be possible destinations.

Flamengo president Rodolfo Landim has now cited the same reasons for why it would be a problem for his side to sign the Selecao talisman amid speculation suggesting that Neymar would one day like to play for the Rio de Janeiro outfit.

"Do you know how much Neymar earns? He earns €4.08 million (R76 million)," Landim said, according to ESPN Brazil.

"The problem is that he has a five-year contract. There are four to go. He has four years; do you think he will give up that money?

"Only if PSG wants to push it to someone and keep paying.

"I don't have that money to pay him. Flamengo doesn't pay what they pay him per year.

"It's because sometimes people don't have a concept of money. Me sitting there in the chair, I do math every day."

Despite a seemingly uncertain future at PSG at the beginning of the season, the 30-year-old has been in fine form since the start of the campaign, registering 32 goal contributions in 25 matches across all competitions for the French giants.
