Tunisia 1-0 France

Tunisia's FIFA World Cup campaign came to an end on Wednesday evening despite defeating reigning champions France 1-0.

Kylian Mbappe didn’t start for Les Blues, who made wholesale changes as goalkeeper Steven Mandanda, Jerome Veretout and Randal Kolo Muani were handed their first World Cup starts.

The Carthage Eagles pushed the tournament holders to the brink right after kick-off and a deft finish from Nader Ghandri which was called for offside let Les Blues off the hook.

France battled to contain the North African powerhouse and their free-flow structure in attack, but fortunately enough went to halftime goalless.

The Carthage Eagles didn’t lose sight of their intentions from the first spell and were ahead early from the resumption through a smart finish by skipper Khazri.

France rallied back with seconds to go through Antoine Griezmann, but after a review at the pitch-side monitor, the strike was chalked off and the Carthage Eagles claimed a famous win.

Australia 1-0 Denmark

Australia booked a spot in the last 16 ahead of Tunisia from Group D with a 1-0 slim win over Denmark on Wednesday.

Fran Karacic was the Socceroos single alteration from their win over the Carthage Eagles, but the Danes notably addition from their loss to France were up top in Martin Braithwaite.

Australia and the Danes couldn’t be separated at the end of a pretty quiet first half – which finished goalless before Mathew Leckie came up trumps for the Socceroos in impressive fashion.

There were further drama not least for the Danish where an appeal for a penalty from a coming-together with Kasper Dolberg fell away with the flag for offside instead raised.

Denmark looked for an equaliser with seconds of the match remaining through a clever ball by Christian Eriksen, but it didn’t materialize and the Socceroos secured victory and a last 16 berth.
