After shaking the footballing world with his move to America, Lionel Messi is now reportedly persuading an FC Barcelona star to join him in Major League Soccer.

Following his switch to Inter Miami, the Argentine has reunited with his former teammates Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets in the US, and according to Mundo Deportivo, Sergi Roberto could be the next player to join the reconciliation.

The 31-year-old has spent the entirety of his career, up to this point, at Barcelona, coming up through the club's youth system, but a lack of playing time this season may result in his departure.

Of the Blaugrana's 11 matches played this season, the versatile club captain has made only six appearances, accumulating just 224 minutes of game time in the process.

With his contract set to expire at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, the Spaniard is said to have asked his former teammates about life in America, with all three of them giving positive reviews of their stay in Miami.

However, while he might be liking the idea of making a similar transfer, he might not necessarily want a move to the Florida-based club that his former teammates represent.

Instead, Roberto is said to favour a switch to either New York City or New York Red Bulls as he is a big fan of the city that never sleeps.

The Barca star could, though, still reportedly reconsider leaving Barca and opt to spend another season at the Camp Nou if he ends up getting a bigger role at the club as the campaign progresses.

The two-time UEFA Champions League winner has made 355 appearances for the Blaugrana to date, scoring 17 goals and providing 40 assists along the way.
