Teenager Lamin Yamal was on target as FC Barcelona climbed up to second spot in LaLiga with victory Mallorca on Friday night.

Yamal, Marc Guiu, Joao Felix and Inigo Martinez were given starts by the host and replaced Ronaldo Araujo, Pedri, Frenkie De Jong and Robert Lewandowski.

No shortage of activity in the final third were highlighted, as the two sides were quick out of the starting blocks in the hope of registering the opening strike.

Barca did get a clear chance from the spot midway in when Raphinha drew a foul before a consultation confirmed the decision, but Predrag Rajkovic denied Ilkay Gundogan.

Raphinha sadly couldn’t continue thereafter following the challenge that won the penalty and was replaced by Fermin Lopez ten minutes ahead of halftime.

Mallorca showed a lot of determination later on and worked a save off Marc-Andre Ter Stegen through a first-time header from Manu Morlanes.

Right at the other end, Gundogan looked to make up for the missed spot-kick when he came in from the right and cut in to get a shot in but Rajkovic had no qualms parrying.

Rajkovic was in it again just after halftime where he dived to the near post to guide Lopez’ curling shot onto the post and way for a corner-kick.

Barcelona were inches away from the lead ten minutes in the second half as Lamine Yamal tossed and turned out wide to come inside and fired off the woodwork.

Lamine continued to find joy out wide and got rewarded when he cut with a drop of the shoulder and curled in the far corner to give them the lead.

The visitors looked to salvage point, with the clocking ticking as the Blaugrana consolidated their lead and claimed the victory.
