Chelsea outcast Romelu Lukaku has reportedly had shock talks with one of his club's biggest Premier League rivals.

It is no secret the striker no longer has a future at Stamford Bridge, after his relationship with the club and its supporters broke down following his €113 million (R2.3 billion) move from Inter Milan in 2021.

The Belgian is understood to be uninterested in a return to his parent club after spending the entire 2022/23 campaign on loan back at Inter, where he expressed his desire to stay at the San Siro last season.

His relationship with the Italian outfit has since broken down, however, after he was found to be in talks with Juventus in July regarding a potential transfer, much to the dismay of the Nerazzurri, who publicly stated that they no longer wanted anything to do with the centre-forward as they felt betrayed.

With little interest being shown in him by new teams over the past month – aside from clubs from Saudi Arabia, but he has insisted that he wants to continue in Europe – Lukaku now looks have drawn the attention of a potential suitor as the transfer window nears its deadline day.

According to Italian outlet CalcioMercato, the 30-year-old has now held preliminary talks with Tottenham Hotspur over a prospective move.

The report claims that Spurs are not diving in head-first in order to sign him, though, as they are reluctant to meet the marksman's hefty wage demands, which could impact them negatively in terms of staying in line with financial fair play regulations.

Current Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino, meanwhile, has revealed that there is no plan to reintegrate Lukaku back into his squad.

"It is not only one side – it is two sides needed to find the best solution," the Argentine tactician said on the weekend.

"You cannot put it only on the club, it is about both sides.

"The situation is where it is because of both sides. Both sides have arrived at an agreement [that Lukaku will not play for Chelsea this season]."
