Manchester City secured the bragging rights in the Manchester Derby after defeating Manchester United 3-1 at the Etihad on Sunday evening.
Kobbie Mainoo stepped in for Antony and Sofyan Amrabat dropped for Jonny Evans, while Ederson, Ruben Dias, Rodri, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva returned from the Citizens' victory over Luton Town in the Emirates FA Cup in midweek.
In astounding fashion – the Red Devils were in the lead on seven minutes when Bruno Fernandes combined with Andre Onana’s long pass and lined-up Marcus Rashford to blast in off the crossbar.
Onana then produced a tremendous point-blank save when he raced out of his area to meet a one-on-one from Foden before eventually keeping the winger at bay.
Another solid stop was made from Onana after the half-hour mark where he got down to the near post to turn Rodri’s first-time shot behind for a corner-kick.
Erling Haaland incredibly missed a sitter on the stroke of halftime as he side-footed a well-placed knockdown from Foden over the top with the goal in plain sight.
Foden drew the home side level minutes into the second half when he came in-field from out wide to make a short run-up after dummying Victor Lindelof and thumped into the top corner.
Inside a few minutes thereafter, the Citizens introduced the game’s first change where Jeremy Doku was sacrificed to see Julian Alvarez step on the field.
Foden turned it around in the last nine minutes when he came out on the left of the area to get into the area and fired into the bottom-corner.
The Citizens wrapped it up in additional time as Haaland made the most of a turnover of possession involving substitute Amrabat and finished calmly past Andre Onana.
