Manchester United are reportedly looking into signing a former Atletico Madrid star in the coming days, which could spell the end of another player's time at the English club.
The Red Devils ended the most recent transfer window as the second biggest spenders in Europe, behind Chelsea, with a total expenditure of €240.3 million (R4.8 billion), according to Transfermarkt.

While the English window may have shut, some clubs have continued to conduct business by snapping up free agents, with Loris Karius and Diego Costa recently sealing moves to Premier League clubs Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers, respectively.
Seemingly not quite satisfied with their transfer business over the past couple of months, it appears United are now also looking to tap into the free-agent market, with El Deportivo reporting they are looking a move for 30-year-old Colombia star Santiago Arias.
The fullback has been a free agent since parting ways with Diego Simeone's club at the end of the 2021/22 campaign, and his signing would provide manager Erik ten Hag with more options at right-back, with Diogo Dalot having starting all seven of United's games this season, as things stand.
This could be bad news for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has been available for selection but does not appear to be in the Dutch coach's plans for United in this campaign, and was reportedly set to leave Old Trafford if a significant offer was made in the latest window. However, no such bid came.

Arias, who would be a senior addition to a relatively young Red Devils squad, boasts a wealth of experience in Europe having played for the likes of Atletico, Bayer Leverkusen and PSV Eindhoven, and has also earned 54 caps for Colombia.
