Asamoah Gyan says he has declined a national team coaching opportunity.

Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan has revealed that he turned down the opportunity to join up with one of the biggest teams in Africa as a coach.

The Black Stars' most prolific striker of all time with 51 goals for his national team, Gyan formally hung up his boots in June 2023, at the age of 37.

That decision came two years after representing his last club Legon Cities FC in Ghana back in October 2021.

Since then, the former striker has worked as a pundit and recently launched a sports project called All Regional Games.

Nevertheless, the former Sunderland attacker has revealed that he was offered a national team job after acquiring his UEFA B coaching license, telling Asempa FM that he rejected the opportunity to manage one of Ghana's youth sides.

Explaining the decision, he said: "The timing was wrong but let us see what happens in the future.

"I won't entirely rule out the possibility to coach because we don't know what the future holds."

With Gyan's attention currently on his All Regional Games project, he has been lauded by Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku for advancing youth development in his country.

"The man who has brought us here [Gyan] is a gift to sports in our dear country. Asamoah distinguished himself as one of our very best footballers," Okraku said at the project's launch this week, according to the Daily Guide Network.

"He chalked all the successes one can think about in football. He did not only chalk successes, he went beyond that to invest in other sporting disciplines, including, but not limited to, football and boxing. I am speaking about what I know! What I do not know about I daresay, are even more.

"Today, he has decided again to give back to the world. From humble beginnings we look forward beyond the happenings of today.

"These talents from the platforms that are being offered today via the All Regional Games will grow up and represent Ghana in international meets. Some will grow up and compete for stellar clubs beyond the shores of Ghana. Some may even end up playing for other countries. This is what I mean by the 'Baby Jet' [Gyan's nickname] given back, not only to Ghana, but to the world."
