accreditation

More than 82 000 fans filled ‘The Calabash’ to witness Orlando Pirates beat Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 as coach Milutin Sredojevic’s team become the first in 20 years to come from behind and win the Soweto Derby. The victory also lifts the Buccaneers to within one point of Absa Premiership log leaders Bidvest Wits.

#SummerGigs is Vodacom’s commitment to making this the most memorable summer for every Vodacom customer. From 27 October 2018 to 10 February 2019, Vodacom will reward family and friends through every post, like, share or live stream. By just using a minimum of 10MB per day of paid data, all Vodacom customers stand the chance to win up to 100% of their data back for free* to use the very next day in South Africa’s biggest data reward drive.

Vodacom customers who use their data for seven consecutive days will also receive one entry into a monthly draw for the chance to win one  of 15 Renault Dusters with a year’s supply of fuel to the value of R24 000, or one of three R1-million Vodacom Millionaires cash prizes.

The soccer fans were the first to experience Vodacom’s “Super Summer” as they shared in the seasonal feel of the floral dresses, coloured shirts and flip flops of the Vodacom activation at the iconic stadium.

Those fans who signed up to be part of the #SummerGigs campaign were immediately rewarded with a shot at the #SummerGigs Course Challenge and the opportunity to test their own football skills.

There was also a PS3 challenge, dance competition and an Orlando Pirates trivia challenge to entertain the fans, as well as a celebrity appearance by former Orlando Pirates midfield star Benedict “Tso” Vilakazi and the popular Bra Shakes.

It was a rewarding day for both the Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs fans who joined in the activation action as they won upgrades on their general access tickets to Sowety Derby Suite Tickets, Vodacom airtime vouchers, Orlando Pirates replica jerseys and Vodacom #SummerGigs drinks cups.

The children from the Orlando Children’s Home were also given their moment to remember as they were invited to be the official Vodacom mascots for the day and walked out with the players from both Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs to thunderous applause from the fans. Thereafter the children were treated to watching the match in one of the stadium suites.

“We are grateful for the work the Orlando Children’s Home is doing in raising these children and showing them that people do love them. For us to be part of that through our sponsor Vodacom and show them that they matter on the day of the biggest soccer match in South Africa is an honour,” said Thandi Merafe, the Orlando Pirates media officer.

For the Soweto Derby soccer fans, there was never a better time to share the memories and kick off a season of summer goals with #SummerGigs.
