Siyabonga Ngezana is on his way to winning the first trophy of his career and playing in the UEFA Champions League.

Siyabonga Ngezana has continued with his impressive debut season in Romania with the league title and ticket to the UEFA Champions League qualifiers now in sight.

Ngezana was in action on Monday night as his club FCSB (formerly Steaua Bucuresti) ran out 4-0 winners at home to stretch their lead at the top to 11 points.

As has been the case for most of the season at FCSB, the former Kaizer Chiefs defender put in a full shift at centre back.

The 26 year-old is gradually having a dream debut season at the 1986 European champions where he has played 17 games since arriving in July.

Worth noting is that while Ngezana was slow off the blocks, he has since been able to play in 16 of the 22 league games that FCSB have played.

Ngezana has played 13 league games in a row putting him in good footing to be considered as one of the best performers this season at his club.

Those solid displays have prompted interest from French club Lorient.

For all the transfer talk that is building up, Ngezana’s immediate task is on guiding FCSB to the Romanian league title.

FCSB sit top of the standings with 47 points from 22 games and enjoy an 11-point cushion over second placed CFR Cluj.

There are eight games remaining before the season enters the championship play-offs with FCSB already just about guaranteed of their place as one of the top six teams in the regular season.

In the championship play-offs, the points accumulated from the regular season are halved and the six teams then play against each other twice to determine the league winners who then qualify for the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds.

The value of the Romanian title carries more weight for Ngezana as he never won any silverware for all his years at Chiefs.
