The South African Football Players Union [Safpu] wants to assist DStv Premiership club TS Galaxy FC to overcome their well-documented financial troubles.

According to the organisation, many of the club's players have reported the former Nedbank Cup champions to the players' body over unpaid salaries.

According to Safpu secretary general Nhlanhla Shabalala, they will meet both the club and the players this week.

"We take this thing of not paying players their salaries very seriously," Shabalala tells KickOff.

"But at the moment we've just been briefed on the situation because we realise there are stories floating around as well.

"From time to time we check with our members when there are emerging stories of that nature.

"Indeed, we have spoken to the Galaxy players and most of the players have raised that they have not been paid.

"But it has not been a formal complaint, remember there are processes.

"Sometimes a team owe players money and it's out there in the media, and the players when we engage they tell us that indeed they have not been paid but at that point, they are not ready to take any legal action.

"Remember the players they also love the club that they play for, and it takes a very decent chairman to sit them down and engage and say to them 'listen, we are just going through a turbulent time and your salaries will be delayed and be paid at a particular time we are fixing the issue.'

"And most of the time players they welcome that in most cases. And once that happens it doesn't necessarily require a fight because it's not a formal complaint.

"We just want to look at the situation and monitor the situation as well.

"From what I understand the players have not taken any action themselves.

"The feedback that I got from the most I've spoken to is that this is not normal at this club and therefore they are forgiving to the situation.

"They've taken into confidence that the club is doing as best as they can to resolve this current situation.

"We have also spoken to the members, we will meet with them sometime this week so that we can get a thorough understanding of where the majority of them lie with this issue and what is it that they want Safpu to do.

"Unfortunately with TS Galaxy, we've had no joy because we've been calling Tim Sukazi and he's not taking any of our calls or returning them.

"We really hope he comes to his senses so that we can talk to him.

"We are just trying to establish how big the damage is, and maybe try to offer some guidance.

"The club must understand we've got a responsibility and they must not block us from doing our work because in the end, we look at the interest of the players.

"But if they don't do that we will then explore the legal steps."
