The situation faced by Siphelele Ntshangase has been dissected with the factors that have contributed to his drop and disappearance from the face of professional football highlighted.

Ntshangase has sunk to the doldrums after yet another difficult campaign with Marumo Gallants last season where he played a mere three games totaling 113 minutes.

Worse for him is the fact that in the last three years he has played just 10 games and none of those appearances stretched from the start to the end of a match.

In February it will have been four years since he last played 90 minutes which happened while he was at Chiefs under Ernst Middendorp.

Since then, he has just played 11 games out of 121 played by both Chiefs and Marumo which explains why he is now in a bleak situation without a club.

"The issue is that not every club, not every coach, and not every environment can bring the best out of a player," argues Zeca Marques, who coached Ntshangase in his prime at Black Leopards.

"I got the best out of him because I know how to deal with the human factor.

"There is an environment that we create for our players as coaches, and I think this is what I did at Leopards, and I got to understand what he needs.

"When a player feels that the coach is on his side, he will feel the desire to perform.

"I gave him the freedom within the team’s parameters and once he felt appreciated, he performed but it’s not every coach and every club that understands this.

"Most of the clubs and coaches treat players as one size fits all objects who are addressed the same way, yet players should be treated individually and according to what their skills levels are from their character perspective.

"You got to understand the human factor before igniting the passion in the player for him to perform.

"I understood and knew how to speak to Stash because I treat every player as an individual.

"Some players only understand you when spoken to harshly yet some sulk when you raise your voice.

"It is not a one size fits all for all the players so that is why I take interest in the human being in the player.

"With Stash, we kept the communication, and I was available for him to help him and show him that I care about the human factor because players are not machines, but human beings and they work on emotions.

"Once you address their emotional side you can get the best out of them.

"It was simple as that with Stash, but I don’t know what then happened everywhere else he went," says Marques.
