Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung has urged the club's supporters to give new head coach Molefi Ntseki support ahead of the upcoming season and insists that criticism of the coach is 'very unfair'.

After an underwhelming campaign that saw Chiefs finish fifth in the DStv Premiership, Arthur Zwane was demoted to assistant coach while the technical head of youth and development was 're-deployed' to first-team head coach.

The announcement was met with a mixed reception, with Ntseki have no proven record of winning silverware in the Premiership. Club legend Lucas Radebe was among those not convinced by the appointment.

Chiefs suffered a 1-0 defeat to Tanzanian champions and CAF Confederations Cup finalist Young Africans in Ntseki's first pre-season friendly match last Saturday.

"Well hopefully with the changes that we have made, the acquisitions that we have made and the path that we took I think we are on the right track," Motaung told journalists.

"The new coach just needs to be given a chance to do his job because as you were well aware, when the announcement was made about the appointment of Ntseki, it brought of lot mixed feelings

"But obviously, for people, talk is cheap. It's easy to criticise but you can only criticise something that has gone through the test and then you can say 'this thing is not going right,' but history will show you that from all the coaches we have brought abroad, none of them had won anything or had any success where they came from.

"The only time they had success was when they got to Kaizer Chiefs [where] they found a structure the way it was and obviously it could also be a question of the timing, it could have been right.

"But all in all, most of the coaches we brought here only became known and became successful because of the set-up that we have at Kaizer Chiefs.

We hope that Ntseki can also be given that opportunity to really do his job and we will see after some time if we can criticise him or anything like that.

"It is unfortunate that today because of social media, people are at liberty to say anything, anyhow and anywhere. But the criticism that has been levelled against him (Ntseki) has been very very unfair because he hasn't even started doing anything."

Chiefs kick off their DStv Premiership campaign with a clash against Chippa United on Sunday, 6 August at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
