Kaizer Chiefs are counting their losses in millions on Colombian striker Efmamjjasond Gonzalez.
Kaizer Chiefs are counting their losses in millions on Colombian striker Efmamjjasond Gonzalez.

Kaizer Chiefs will be moving on again in the next transfer window after failing to reap the benefits of yet another transfer deal.

Chiefs will be waving goodbye to Efmamjjasond Gonzalez at the end of the season following the Colombian striker’s struggles since arriving at the beginning of the campaign on loan from Bolivian club Real Santa Cruz.

Gonzalez was brought in with the hope that he will improve on what Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana gave the club up front with eight goals in 21 appearances in his only season at Naturena.

Instead of improvements, Gonzalez turned into a disappointment.

The gangly striker has failed to score in the 12 matches that he has played to date and hasn’t played since being brought in as an injury-time substitute in the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates.

Through his time at Chiefs, the club will have spent approximately R2,5 million on his package that includes salaries, accommodation and flights.

Gonzalez's salary at the club is in six figures, has luxurious accommodation, and will have his flight back to South America paid for by Amakhosi.

He is now merely waiting for the completion of the season to then move back to Bolivia with Chiefs not taking up the option of turning his stay into a permanent deal.

The agreement was that the Soweto giants would activate a permanent transfer should they be happy with what they see during the loan season.

Real Santa Cruz are already pushing for an early return of their top man whom they have struggled for goals without.

Gonzalez had eight league goals for Santa Cruz in the Division de Futbol Profesional last year before moving to Naturena.

The 24-year-old has now failed to score in his last 21 appearances at Santa Cruz and Chiefs.

He failed to score in his last nine games in Bolivia and has continued with his struggles in another 12 appearances totalling 451 minutes at the Glamour Boys.
