Former Mamelodi Sundowns star Dillon Sheppard is one player who knows all about career-threatening injuries and has offered his support to the stricken Thapelo Morena.

The Bidvest Wits reserve team coach shared some positive words for Morena following the horrific leg break he suffered against against SuperSport United in the Nedbank Cup.

In 2007, Sheppard suffered a similar injury against Free State stars while he was playing for Sundowns and the former Bafana Bafana left-winger says Morena must try to remain positive.

"You know, all I can say to Morena is be positive," Sheppard said at the MultiChoice Diski Challenge festival in Durban last weekend.

"If I can go back to my injury obviously there was always negative news about might not play again or you will never play at Sundowns again and they will drop you out."

Sheppard said having strong support from Sundowns helped him to be strong, and he advised Morena to do the same.

"But you know, I surrounded myself with positive people. I had great support and Sundowns are a great club, they looked after me medically," he added.

"We had to close down the hospital in Kimberly because the fans came to see me and moved me outside so I can spend time with fans.

"He's in a good club and they will look after him. There's no reason why he can't go back to where he used to be, even be better because these kinds of things are great experiences.

"They prepare you mentally and make you stronger, so there's no reason he can't come back stronger."
