Orlando Pirates legendary goalkeeper Innocent Mayoyo has reacted to Itumeleng Khune's man-of-the-match performance for the Carling All-Star team on Saturday.

The Amakhosi goalkeeper walked away with a R100 000 cheque for his efforts.

All-Star beat Carling Knockout winners Stellenbosch 2-1 at Peter Mokaba Stadium on the weekend.

Khune is currently on suspension at his club for allegedly drinking on duty.

"His performance in that game was outstanding," Mayoyo tells KickOff.

"I mean he pulled off some match-winning saves in that game. You must remember that these men of the matches are voted by fans, so they have nothing to do with performance.

"That's why 90% of those men of the matches in the Carling Knockout came from the losing teams. Which is not familiar.

"His performance on Saturdays tells us that games are not the same, he's a grown-up and he will remain an experienced goalkeeper.

"Like all the other goalkeepers he is the one who will suffer when the team is not doing well.

"Kaizer Chiefs is stable now so any goalkeeper they go with will look good.

"But on Saturday, even besides the votes he deserves the man of the match.

"Goalkeeping is all about capability, and and discipline, not age. Overseas goalkeepers retire at a very, very late stage.

"On Saturday Khune showed he can still play for a few more years.

"This doesn't mean he is still the best in the country though, Ronwen Williams is the best in the country at the moment.

"Lack of game time has taken that title away from Khune. You can't be the best if you are not playing."
