New faces, Chiefs snubbed as Broos names Bafana squad

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has announced his squad for the forthcoming 2023 AFCON qualifier against Morocco in June.

Both Bafana and Morocco have qualified for the continental competition being hosted in the Ivory Coast from 13 January to 11 February.

Firstly, following weeks of outstanding issues the venue for the match has been confirmed as the FNB Stadium on 17 June following a meeting between SAFA and Stadium Management on Tuesday which resolved all money issues between the two parties. 

This means Broos will now focus on his team knowing that the match will be played in Johannesburg and has called up 34 players for his preliminary squad.

The squad will be cut down to 23 players in the days leading to the match.

The final squad goes into camp on 11 June after an initial weeklong pre-camp from 31 May to 7 June for local based players along with selected overseas based players.

Defenders: Given Msimango (TS Galaxy), Sydney Mobbie (Sekhukhune United), Innocent Maela, Nkosinathi Sibisi (both Orlando Pirates), Taariq Fielies (Cape Town City), Siyanda Xulu (Toran Tovuz), Thapleo Morena, Aubrey Modiba, Grant Kekana, Mothobi Mvala, Khuliso Mudau (all Mamelodi Sundowns)

Midfielders:  Monnapule Saleng, Miguel Timm (both Orlando Pirates), Sphelele Mkhulise, Themba Zwane, Teboho Mokoena (all Mamelodi Sundowns), Luke le Roux (Varborg), Thapelo Maseko, Grant Margeman (both SuperSport United), Bathusi Aubaas (TS Galaxy), Njabulo Blom (St. Louis City)
