Bafana agree bonuses with SAFA

Former Bafana Bafana international Nasief Morris has applauded the South African Football Association and Bafana Bafana players for ironing out the AFCON bonus issues on time.

The football mother body has promised the national team players a R131 million rand bonus if they win the Africa Cup Of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Morris says the only thing that is not ideal about the deal is that the players will only smell the bonus if they lift the cup.

"I don't think there is anything wrong about the bonuses because it's what a lot of countries do," Morris tells KickOff.

"In Greece when I was there, when they won the Euro, they had everything in place before the tournament started.

"So the prize money, sponsorships, the cars, the watches, and all the things they were gonna get it was arranged before.

"So it should be out of the way and everybody agrees. So when they go to the tournament they can focus on what everybody can do.

"Getting it only if they win that's another problem because the players from Europe are losing out on money, and bonuses from their clubs.

"So I think it's a little bit unfair. If they get injured in this competition, they end up losing more time at the club.

"So it's a bit of a risk you know, 'cause they are professionals I mean they get paid to do this, and they need to be kind of secured also.

"There should have been a separate bonus for reaching the knockout stages, and also the next stage of the competition.

"But like this, it doesn't make sense because if they don't win the tournament the country gets money for participating but none of the players gets paid."
