With the AFCON finals off the mark in Cote d’Ivoire, the PSL’s Big Three will all have their eyes glued on what is happening at the tournament due to the presence of their players.

Kaizer Chiefs defender Edmilson Dove was the first player from the Big Three in action on Sunday as he came up against Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah’s Egypt.

Dove put in a full shift for Mozambique as they were unfortunate to end up letting their lead and play out a 2-2 draw.

With Atletico Madrid’s Reinildo Mandava at left-back, Dove played as a left sided central defender as he made his AFCON finals debut.

The 29-year-old is into the last six months of his contract at Chiefs where he has played since August 2022.

Dove has played 10 games for AmaKhosi this season including the last six in a row.

Richard Ofori has made a welcome return to interna

For Orlando Pirates, Richard Ofori has not only been included in the Ghana squad but was captain on Sunday as the Black Stars suffered a surprise defeat to Cape Verde.

This is despite the fact that Ofori is yet to play in the league this season having been forced to wait behind Sipho Chaine and Melusi Buthelezi and at times even behind Siyabonga Mpontshane.

The Black Stars have kept their faith in the 30-year-old who has now played at his third AFCON finals.

Ofori is yet to play in the DStv Premiership this season, didn’t play in the Carling Cup, and MTN8 with his 181 minutes spread over three appearances having come in the CAF Champions League.

When Group E gets under way on Tuesday, Mamelodi Sundowns will raise their heads.

Bafana Bafana is dominated by Sundowns players with Ronwen Williams, Khuliso Mudau, Grant Kekana, Thapelo Morena, Terrence Mashego, Aubrey Modiba, Mothobi Mvala, Teboho Mokoena, Thapelo Maseko, and Themba Zwane all players from the champions.

At least half of them are expected to be in the starting XI.

Namibia – who are also in Group E – have Peter Shalulile.
