Former Marumo Gallants star Mahlatse Makudubela is increasingly becoming a fan-favourite at Yanga SC and the player has now dished out a valuable lesson for the club's women's team. WATCH!

The story

The winger left many South African football lovers surprised when he joined the Tanzanian giants in July 2023 following a two-year spell at Gallants.

Signed as a free agent by the side, the 33-year-old has made a great impression at his new team, as fans continue to embrace his arrival in Dar es Salaam. Being the first Mzansi native to ply his trade in the Tanzania top-flight, 'Skudu' popularity has grown dramatically, as he told FarPost that he cannot go anywhere without supporters noticing him, something he rarely experienced in his home country.

“Even when I played for Orlando Pirates, I could walk through a mall, and no one asks for a picture,” the attacker said of his new-found fame . He added: “I had 65,000 followers on Instagram when I arrived, but I’m sitting on double that number after just a few days here.”

With his influence at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium increasing, the former Mamelodi Sundowns academy star was asked to share some inspiration for the Yanga Women's team.

Football matters

The Yanga boss Miguel Gamondi has also been impressed with the tricky forward despite Skudu sustaining a injury just a few weeks into his time at the club.

“I’m happy with him, he’s working very hard,” Gamondi told FARPost. “He was unlucky to be injured in the first game. After that, it’s been difficult for him to come back and win a starting place in the team. But I think he’s doing very well.

“But like every player in the team, he has a role. He has a strong point and a weak point. Skudu will be helpful for us in some moments of the game. I’m very happy with him.

“I know the fans love him because he makes show off, but we also need efficiency. He’s a good export from South African football.”
