South Africa have their Africa Cup of Nations fate firmly in their own hands.
South Africa have their Africa Cup of Nations fate firmly in their own hands.

After Bafana Bafana stormed to a historic victory in the Africa Cup of Nations against Namibia, KickOff readers have reacted the thrilling 4-0 win. Here's a look!

What's the story?

South Africa claimed their biggest win in AFCON history, as they eased past neighbours Namibia thanks to goals by Percy Tau, Thapelo Maseko, and a stunning brace by veteran Themba Zwane.

The result ensures that the team now have their fate in their own hands heading into the final group match against Tunisia on Wednesday evening.

There's been a widespread reaction from South Africans, with many elated not only with the result but the convincing performance as well. KickOff readers on Facebook had a lot to express, as they reacted to the KO article: Bafana bounce back with Namibia thrashing.

“Thank you Bafana Bafana, you never disappointed me. I really still have hope for the knockout stage after Tunisia,” says Bhanqo Gilford.

“Happy. He went with settled back 4, all from Sundowns, they know each other well and Mokoena in the centre. Mixed it up going forward and the team was on fire. They played like a team wanting to win the match. Should we have lost, we were out of the tournament. Now the group is open for all 4 countries. Whoever wins in the final match goes through. Tunisia, it’s no longer in their hands. Hope the guys will show the same hunger against Tunisia,” says Kamo Lefuo.

“But thanks to the guys for their performance, I hope they have gained self-confidence for their coming match,” says Majasto Mdluli.

“This [Deon] Hotto is good. The one from Pirates is not make sure. Someone said he plays with average players at Pirates. I agree,” says MPC Nyathi.

“Well done Bafana. Seems like Sundowns combinations helped the game to flow. That’s the value of selecting most players from a successful team. They have chemistry already,” says Ernest Phasa.

“If we have three Themba Zwane, three Thaphelo Morena, and three Thaphelo Maseko in the Bafana squad, I was going to say we have a formidable team, we don't have depth. Xulu must remain on the bench,” says Jeffrey March.

“That penalty was supposed to be a foul for Namibia, the referee was bad for us today, lots of fouls for Namibia were ignored. Some offside calls were not legit, this game was won in the board room first,” says Prosper-kid Enkono.

“Williams, Modiba, Mokoena, Kekana, and Maseko well done from Supersport United fan. I’m proud of my former boys,” says Ali Mokoena.

"What happened to the ‘good luck Namibia’ brigade,” says Vusumzi Basela.

“Not to hate, we really needed the Sundowns combination with Africa's current best player Tau.. They have a lot of experience playing in Africa so they are a team to watch and by playing like this, they can win the tournament,” says Mthobisi Ndovela.

“Mshishi was so disappointed when they substituted him because he knows that he was going to score a hat-trick. Kodwa well done boys, now we want France and Brazil combined,” says Skhalo Leshaba.

Sticking with AFCON, Egypt have confirmed that Mohamed Salah is set to leave the squad and return to his club Liverpool after picking up an injury against Ghana. The forward is expected to miss at least two games from the tournament, leaving him with a chance to international duty in the event that Egypt reach the latter stages of the AFCON.

The news hasn't gone down well in some quarters, as some suggests that he is prioritising his club over his country.

"Back to Anfield. This guy is useless for Egypt,  a complete passenger in game because doesn't track back, offers nothing, and waits around for the ball. Who does he think he is," says Leslie Sebolai.

"Why does he prefer to go to rehabilitation in England while there are doctors with the Egyptian team," says Louis Van Tonder.

"AFCON is too big for the guy," says GaoJackson Othusitse/

"Overrated but useless to the Egypt squad," says Loato Kelediyakgotla.

"Let him go to Liverpool. He's sorounded by usless players, who doesn't separate a cross from a shot. He's being wasted in Egypt," says Thomas Sitthole.

"Gone are the days when we used to see Egypt fight through thick and thin," says Thabiso T Man Serape.

"If you need great players around you to perform, what does that say about you," says Leslie Sebola.
