Al Ahly have made a request to CAF ahead of their CAF Champions League clash on Friday, something opponents Medeama SC insist is not necessary.

With Al Ahly having asked CAF to postpone their upcoming Champions League tie due to a plane incident, their opponents have now hit back at the request.

The CAFCL will be in full swing again this weekend as the fifth round of group-stage matches get underway from Friday.

Reigning champions Al Ahly currently top Group D with six points from four matches as they look to advance to the quarter-finals of the tournament.

On Wednesday, the private jet that the Egyptian giants were flying in encountered a minor accident at an airport in Accra, Ghana, ahead of their match against Medeama in Kumasi, to which they still need to travel.

The club has since asked CAF for a postponement of the fixture, which is planned to take place on Friday at the Baba Yara Stadium at 18:00, South African time.

A statement released by Ahly on social media reads: "This evening, the plane carrying the Al Ahly team's delegation to Kumasi, to meet Ghana's Medeama in the African Champions League, was exposed to emergency circumstances that forced it not to complete the flight.

"The plane landed four hours ago at Accra Airport to refuel, and while the equipment assigned by the airport was preparing to move the plane in preparation for take-off, the equipment collided at the front of the plane, which has caused it to be unfit for flight at the present time, and therefore the Al Ahly mission is in trouble, as the administrative staff is searching for a hotel to stay in tonight, in light of the lack of domestic flight availability to complete the trip to Kumasi, and at the same time the club management is in intensive contact with The Ministry of Aviation to take the necessary measures..

"In light of these events, urgent contacts were made with the Confederation of African Football to notify them of what happened, and to take the necessary measures to postpone the match, so that the Al Ahly team can reach Kumasi and participate in the meeting."

Medeama board chairman Dr. Tony Aubynn, however, has insisted that there is no need to reschedule the match.

"The flight time from Accra to Kumasi is approximately 40 minutes," he said, according to GHANAsoccernet.

"Al Ahly players are safe and in a hotel in Accra. They will fly only 40 minutes from Accra to Kumasi, the match venue.

"There is no need to postpone the match."
