AN Operation Dudula march turned deadly following a heated argument.

One person was shot and killed and five others were hurt.

It is alleged that on Monday afternoon, 18 April, members of Operation Dudula and Pimville residents in Soweto marched to Chicken Farm squatter camp in Kliptown against cable theft and a clash ensued.

Police spokeswoman Brigadier Brenda Muridili said according to the cops’ preliminary reports,

an altercation ensued and shots were fired.

“One person has been certified dead on the scene and five more people were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds for medical treatment. All of the victims are reported to be South Africans,” said Muridili.

At this stage, it’s unclear who fired the shots. However, a case of murder and five counts of attempted murder have been registered for investigation.

No one has been arrested yet.

In a video that has emerged following the march, a woman believed to be taking part in the march can be seen with a bullet wound in her left shoulder.

She can be heard wondering whether or not the bullet went into her skin.

Attempts to get hold of members of Operation Dudula have not been successful.

The movement has been gaining momentum recently and is led by Nhlanhla “Lux” Dlamini.

The movement said it’s driven by the influx of illegal foreigners and suspected drug traffickers.
