It's a sex scene that still has many wondering how and why The Wife is not classified as adult content.

The Showmax drama got mixed reactions from social media users after the intimate scene between the characters of Khanyi Mbau and Mondli Makhoba was flighted, with many users adamant that the sex scene was real.

There were even calls for the age restriction of the show, which airs on DSTV, to be increased. But according to the manager of legal regulatory affairs at the Film and Publication Board (FPB), Pandelis Gregoriou, there is a detailed checklist of factors that inform the board's decisions when it comes to age ratings on South African films, series and theatre.
