She has been attending the court case of the apostle from Katlehong who is currently in custody and facing charges of sexual assault.

As a Bishop, Esther Masela finds it difficult to control her facial expression as one witness after the other takes the stand and gives their testimony. She has been following the matter since the eight boys came out and reported that the lead pastor of Arise and Shine Gospel Church of sexually assaulting boys who are minors.

“What happened at this church is very painful and as a leader I am hurting because vulnerable people come to church for spiritual fulfilment. That is why I have attended this case from day one so that I can hear the truth of what happened. I am hurt to hear what is happening in other churches and my wish is for the government to be involved in the running of church, just to observe what is happening at church and see how people worship.”
