The family of Robert Varrie (pictured) has hired a PI to probe his murder for which axed Moja Love presenter Xolani Khumalo is currently being held responsible.

The Varrie family maintains that the former host of Moja Love’s Sizok'thola deserves to be behind bars for the trauma the family and the tenants experienced the day they came to the place they call their home.

They are not leaving anything to chance as they wait on justice to be served.

If the murder-accused former presenter is not sentenced, says the family's private investigator whose name is known to Drum, then a civil case against Moja Love and Xolani will be pursued.

Alleged drug dealer Robert Varrie reportedly got bust by Xolani during a July 2023 filming of Sizok'thola in Katlehong's Phadima Section.

A source known to Drum says no-one from the area will ever forget that day.

Robert lived at the fourth house from the corner on a property with a standalone home and backrooms, says the source.

Robert had rented a room in the yard since 2019 and had been allegedly selling drugs since then.

Addressing the media in Boksburg, the private investigator who wants to be addressed only as AB, says the family is not happy with the investigations done by the police thus far.

He says even when the investigating officer does contact the family, he doesn’t give them proper feedback and they feel like he is hiding something from them and not telling them the truth.

“The family asked the officer about the CCTV footage which he alleges he obtained at Vosloorus Hospital [where Robert was rushed to]," says AB.

“There is a hard drive which was handed to a family member by an unknown, masked individual, and it was also handed over to him (the investigating officer).

“According to him, the footage in the hard drive was downloaded. But the big problem is the CCTV footage where five individuals are seen dumping Robert’s body at the hospital (sic).”

Speaking to Drum, AB says the bereaved family does not have clarity on what is happening.

“The question now is when he (the investigating officer) wrote down the registration number [of the car that dropped Robert of at the hospital], didn’t he see the individuals dropping the body?”

“We want to know because those individuals are very important, and they have to be added as accused alongside Xolani in court. The charge of conspiracy to murder and defeating the ends of justice needs to be added.”

Moja Love needs to come to court, as well as Xolani, and account as the employer, AB maintains.

“At the moment there is a civil matter handled by a lawyer while I handle the criminal matter. They are going to summon Moja Love very soon and then we will take it from there.

“The family doesn’t want to speak to the media yet because they are trying to protect Robert’s kids who are still dealing with losing a father who provided for them.”

Robert is survived by eight children, including a two-year-old and four-month-old.
