She's become a cautionary tale – always use products for their intended use and if you run out of your regular hair products, don't look for replacements in the hardware section of your house.

A Louisiana woman has been trending for a while after she used Gorilla Glue on her hair when she ran out of her ordinary Got2b Glued Blasting Freeze hairspray that she normally uses to tame her hair and made her hairstyles sleek.

Tessica Brown used the Gorilla Glue spray, a permanent, moisture-resistant, heavy-duty adhesive meant for fabric, paper, wood, plastic, cardboard, and metal. She started to panic when multiple washes just didn't budge it and her hair was stuck in place.

What made her go viral?

A week ago Tessica (40) took to social media in an emotional video, telling the world that she's exhausted all home remedies to get the glue out of her hair.

“For those of you who know me, know that my hair has been like this for about a month now, it's not by choice. When I do my hair, I like to finish it off with Got2b glued spray to keep it in place, well I didn’t have any so I used Gorilla glue spray, bad, bad idea. My hair, it don’t move, I’ve washed my hair 15 times and it don’t move,” she said.

She asked people on social media for advice on how she could remove the glue from her hair and the remedies varied from coconut oil and tea tree oil but nothing worked. A dermatologist on TikTok recommended acetone to break the glue’s bonds or trying Goo Gone adhesive remover, but that also didn't work.

After many failed attempts to remove the glue at home, on Sunday Tessica posted a picture of the emergency room entrance at the St. Bernard Parish Hospital. According to TMZ, Tessica spent 22 hours in the ER where the medical staff applied acetone to her hair but instead it burned her scalp and it make the glue gooey before hardening again. She has reportedly hired an attorney and was considering taking legal action against Gorilla Glue.

A Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, Dr Michael Obeng, offered to assist Tessica by removing the glue from her hair for free. The procedure normally costs $12500 (R183 340).

She  launched a GoFundMe for wigs as she had already made peace with being bald from now on. She was hoping to raise $1500 (R21 979) but people have been generous and she has raised $18000 (R263 821).

On Wednesday she flew from Louisiana to LA in hopes that Dr Obeng would be able to do what she has been trying to do for a month and he succeeded.

According to TMZ Dr Obeng was able to save Tessica’s hair in a four-hour-long procedure and now Tessica is able to run her fingers through her hair.

Tessica was under a light anesthesia during the procedure and is over-joyed to know that she can go back to living her normal life.
