She is beaming with excitement after her partner of three years proposed to her a few days ago.

Umlilo singer and songwriter Rethabile Khumalo tells Drum she cannot wait for her big day.

“I can’t say too much at the moment, we still need to get the admin out of the way. But he proposed, and I said yes,” she says.

The bride-to-be is still not ready to give details of who the man that has stolen her heart is and what he does for a living.

“We are just literally starting with the process of lobola before jumping into the planning of the wedding.”

In no rush and under no pressure, Rethabile says everything will go according to their own time.

“We don’t want to stress about anything, we want everything to be as smooth as our relationship.”

The singer says her partner did not go down on his knees or prepare a dramatic marriage proposal but asked her to share a life with him. “We just want to do things the right way,” she says.

Winnie Khumalo is excited about her daughter getting married and having a son-in-law.

“I am beyond ecstatic. I love watching my daughter grow and finally taking my advice,” she says.

“She and her partner have decided to take their relationship to the next level. The engagement shows they are moving forward and maturing.”

Winnie says they are currently waiting to do things the “traditional African way”.

“They are still planning the lobola and everything. But we don’t want to put pressure on him and his family. I am just glad they are doing things the correct and traditional way. She is building a life for herself, being responsible and marriage will teach her to use her money well and to be able to create a healthy home environment,” she adds.

“It’s so exciting to see her fixing her life and living a good life. Every parent wants to see their child live a proper and stable life. She needs stability, especially in this line of work where you work at night and perform. There’s alcohol and all sorts of energies out there, it’s important to have a solid base. Kumele aziqoqe. This industry has destroyed a lot of people and if you don’t take care of yourself and build a stable home environment, you will suffer,” she says.

“I am glad she is doing that now while everything in her career is going well.”

Winnie says life has been good and her health is looking up.

For many years, she suffered from ulcers, but says her health is in top shape.

“I am feeling good. The music is going great. Last year I released Intliziyo EP and Noluthando. Rethabile and I are working through my company Winnie K Records and just building a legacy for the future,” she says.

“We are really focused, this year, physically I feel good, and we have big plans of releasing more music from Rethabile. We couldn’t be at a happier place in our careers and personal lives. As a mother, I am happy and as an artist, we are building,” Winnie adds.
