The day has arrived for the glitzy Netflix reality series Young, Famous, and African.

This seven-episode glamorous reality series follows a group of young, affluent, and famous A-list personalities.

Khanyi Mbau, Nadia Nakai, Kayleigh Schwark, and Quinton Masina from South Africa, Annie Macaulay–Idibia and Swanky Jerry from Nigeria, Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania, and Zari Hassan from Uganda.

This aspirational who’s who of music, media, fashion, and Instagram come together in the city of gold, Johannesburg.

All friends and well connected, they are on a quest to find love, rekindle old flames, reboot struggling relationships, and enjoy the finer things in life.

In the reality show, singer Diamond Platinumz who has 'four or so children' admits to being a player, “I know myself, I’m a player,” he proudly says.

Sports presenter Andile Ncube, says he wouldn’t consider himself the perfect gentleman, “But  I’m a gentleman in training.”

Khanyi and boyfriend Kudzai Mushonga allow viewers into their bedroom.

An opening scene shows Khanyi and Kudzai in bed with the sound of a mellow piano in the background, which sets the tone for their relationship.

“Every morning, we wake up with the piano because the alarm is quite violent. Also, who wants to wake up with the noise of traffic?”

Khanyi earned the name gold digger when she married Mandla Mthembu, who was 31 years older than her and thought she would be a sugar baby all her life but on the show, she admits to being a 35-year-old cougar to her 28-year-old boyfriend.

“Mr. K is the brigadier, he runs the station. Kudzai is a bad boy, and he was reported to be a fugitive. If he is one, I don’t care,” Khanyi says.

“You can’t be a superstar if you don’t have a scandal. You can’t be too clean,” Khanyi adds in one of her conversations with the co-stars.

On the show, the mom of one goes under fire with her co-stars for allowing her 15-year-old daughter to live in her own apartment next door to her and Kudzai.

“She sees the world in her own way and sometimes when we don’t get her, she becomes upset. We allow Khanz to be herself and when she wants to try stuff, we allow her. I am the parent I also wanted as a 15-year-old,” Khanyi adds.

Annie Macaulay–Idibia is the wife of Nigerian singer Innocent Ujah Idibia, also known as 2Face or 2Baba. We see her friendship with Nigerian-style icon Swanky Jerry. Annie lets viewers into her marriage and life away from her marriage. She was 16 years old when she met 2Baba and she one day woke up to realise what big of a superstar he had become. She speaks about infidelity and his numerous relationships outside of their marriage, making her first child, his fifth.

“Innocent has been big for so long and he overshadows everything. There is so much to this woman, and you call me 2Face wife? My name is Annie Macaulay, and you will know about me. I am here in South Africa to expand my empire. I have sacrificed my career and business, and this is now my time.”

Nadia Nakai shares her difficulties with being in a long-distance relationship with now ex-boyfriend and American rapper Vic Mensa, and we see her flirt with one of her co-stars’ husbands.

Sports presenter Andile Ncube gets along with almost everyone and has his eye on one particular lady, Zari Hassan who is the ex-wife of Diamond Platinumz.

The couple, Quinton “Naked DJ” Masina and fitness enthusiast Kayleigh Schwark explore the dynamics of the age gap in their relationship, he is 40 years old while she is 28 years old.

“Quinton is one of the most unromantic people I have ever seen. He is very awkward when it comes to showing affection,” Kayleigh says on the show.

While he sees nothing wrong with his lack of romance, Quinton considers himself highly qualified in the dating world.

“I have been married twice, so I consider myself experienced in relationships.”
