If there’s one person who bravely seizes an opportunity and runs with it, it has to be Trevor Noah.

When he first got the role, it was questioned and dissected by fans but that did not stop from giving it his all and becoming an award-winning Emmy Outstanding talk series award winner.

The prestigious TV awards ceremony was held at the Peacock Theatre in downtown Los Angeles overnight.

Hosted by Black-ish star Anthony Anderson, the 75th edition of the awards boasted an attendance of all stars in the American TV industry and Trevor earned his spot amongst these.

In his appreciation speech in the press room at the theatre, Trevor thanked the team behind him for putting in all the work they did.

He admits that he is having second thoughts about leaving the show when he sees everyone that he worked with to earn the award.

“I would gladly come back and work with every single one of these people, every single day of the week. When I see them, I would do it [but] when I see my schedule on Wednesday, I wouldn’t,” everyone in the room laughs.

With the elections coming up, most were looking to him for his political commentary, received as guidance.

“The good news is that I didn’t make this show by myself so if you’re looking for a spot to get your news, satire that covers all the news as they get crazier [towards the elections], this is the team,” he points out to the team literally standing behind him on stage.

When he started hosting the Comedy Central show, he was met with animosity from most celebrities who had doubted his comedic bone.

After being endorsed by Kevin Hart who honoured his invitation to the show, Trevor finally hit the ground running and showed them how we do it in Mzansi.

On 8 December 2022, Trevor’s last episode from his final season with the show aired.

Three months earlier in his interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, he opened up about his decision to leave the show after the Covid-19 pandemic, which put a lot of things into perspective for him.

“I don’t take anything for granted anymore, I don’t believe that life is a given, I don’t assume that things are going to come to me. Leave it when it’s still good, leave when you still love it, leave when you still have the energy to enjoy it. I still have three months to have fun with everyone at the show and I’m going to do that.”

Trevor added that it is better to leave when people still care unlike when people have had enough of you and don’t care anymore.

When asked what his plans after the show are, he said he’ll be doing “everything”.

“I’m so excited to do everything. I didn’t get to travel as much and do stand-up [comedy] around the world. I used to go to a country, and I’d be there for weeks on end, I’d learn their language, parts of their culture and make a show based on that, I’m going back to doing that.”

The comedian said he’d be going back to producing and being behind the camera, spending more time family back at home.

Ever since, Trevor has made sure to get his groove back.

His Netflix special Where Was I? went live in December last year, a few months after his Savanna stand-up comedy tour in South Africa.

The internationally renowned also started a podcast titled What Now? which has gained stable momentum ever since inception.

Next month, we will see him hard at work again as he hosts the Amazon Prime Video’s South African version of its comedy show – Last One Laughing.

For the fourth consecutive time, he will also be hosting the Grammy awards set to take place on 4 February in Los Angeles.
