Salacious Pod is a new show now airing on Mzansi Magic.

There are times when older generations look at ama2000s and draw blank faces simply because they do not understand what on earth they are talking about.

It gets worse when trying to understand them when they are talking about dating, umjolo the pandemic.

Thankfully, Mzansi Magic has heard the country’s collective cries and has put together a podcast with three young people to help the rest of South Africa decipher what they really mean.

The Salacious Pod premiered on DSTV channel 161 on 4 February at 9pm.

It is hosted by radio personality Naomi Brown, actor Phila Madlingozi and YouTuber Lasizwe Dambuza.

They explain terms like talking stage, entanglement, situationship or sneaky links (hooking up with someone on the down low).

The Salacious Pod looks to explore the present-day dating scene from the perspective of the ‘youngins’ who seem to be redefining everything you thought you knew about old-fashioned courtship and dating. The show will focus on prevalent relationship themes like non-committal relationships, co-parenting, break-ups, no-strings attached partnerships, and many other spicy topics. The guests will comprise various personalities including Manaka Ranaka, Priddy Ugly, Musa Mseleku’s son Mpumelelo who will give his insight about polygamy, BU from Adulting and many more salacious characters.

The Salacious Pod might just be what you need to see whether you are in a relationship or just a ‘ship’.

Drum chats to Lasizwe, one of the hosts and he says the podcast is just what families need in order to understand each other better.

“The show is great in that it gives POVs on different topics. It also explains what you should be expecting from each of the different stages of relationships. Each of the hosts has a different perspective on each topic and very often, viewers will agree with one of us in the beginning of the episode, but by the end of the episode, they agree with another host.”

Lasizwe (25) says he belongs to a confused generation.

“I think we are the group born between 1997 and 1999. We are not really 90s kids, but we are also not ama2000s.

“I think a family gathering would be a great example to show what I mean. At a mcimbi, all my agemates are either married or they have kids. So I do not relate to them. But I can relate to the kids outside busy doing TikTok videos.

“Personally, I treat family gatherings like gigs. I go from one gig to another. I hang out with the cousins, then move to the kiddies to make videos, then to peel in the kitchen and then to the where the men are busy with uhlaba inkomo (slaughtering the cow).”

He shares how excited he is about the return of his YouTube show, Awkward Dates.

“It is coming back bigger and better. I am really grateful to the YouTube community for really welcoming me back after I had been gone for a while.

“I love how the show really shows us a different side to celebrities, not just them answering typical PR questions. They get to have fun without being celebrities. It is not scripted, the only brief for guests to look good for the date.”
