The past year has had her dreams come true, one after the other.

After making the world dance on TikTok, she went on to scoop a Grammy with her very first hit single.

With just two weeks away from the release of her self-titled debut album, the 22-year-old international music sensation has cancelled her world tour.

Despite it being yet another dream that she was looking forward to seeing come to life soon, Tyla had to hit the brakes.

“All of you know that this moment you have all helped me transform into a reality, has been a life-long dream. I am so grateful and humbled by the past year and the way it’s changed my life. I can never thank you guys enough for all your loving support, all the joy, laughter and the wins!”

“As much as this is something I would rather have dealt with privately, it’s important that I share what I have to share with you today. For the past year, I’ve been silently suffering with an injury that has tragically worsened. I’ve seen doctors and specialists with high hopes, but the pain has only become more agonizing as has the severity of the situation,” her statement reads.

She adds that she’s heartbroken to have come to the decision.

“I am absolutely heartbroken to have to say this but as of right now, I won’t be able to proceed with the tour. In consulting with medical professionals, it’s become increasingly clear that continuing any festival or tour dates would jeorpadise my long-term health and safety.”

Tyla is a pioneer of the popiano music genre which fuses amapiano with pop music from as far as back as 2019 with her first ever song titled Getting late.

When she spoke to Drum previously, she shared that she is intentional about merging the various South African music genres in her songs.

“Growing up, I listened to so many different types of music. I had the influence of RnB, pop, house, Kwaito and amapiano. I've had so much influence and I love so many different sounds. I just never felt like one genre fit me as an artist. I love R& B melodies, but then I love the lock drum in amapiano and I just always wanted to mix everything together and also bring our sound to the world in a new way.”

Although she doesn’t get into detail about where the injury is, what caused it and how she’ll be treating it, she assured her supporters that she will be back on her feet in no time.

“Words cannot describe my frustration at this pivotal point in my career. So please know that my team and I are working diligently on a spectacular show for you as soon as I am recovered and ready to return safely on stage this summer.”

Her North American supporters will be automatically refunded while in other countries, ticket providers will make means to contact ticketholders.
