When he released his first solo project, his career made an entry into a chapter of milk and honey.
Breaking away from Black Motion concerned many of his supporters but they’ve since had less to worry about it and more to dance to and they don’t have to do it alone as he joins from the top of his decks during his sets.
Murdah Bongz aka Mörda, real name Bongani Mohasana, hit the decks running shortly after he confirmed his breakup with Thabo Smol. In 2022 he released his first album named after his daughter with DJ Zinhle – Asante.
From this project onwards, he has worked with a number of chart-topping artists in the country with a consistent and admirable collaboration with singer and former Idols runner-up contestant Brenden Praise.
Not only this but he has also recently gained international recognition at the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People (NAACP) Image awards.

The three-step duo have dropped hit after hit with Horns in the Sun being one of the ultimate jams to come out of 2023.
Around the same time that Murdah Bongz was booked and busy for his hits with Oscar Mbo and DJ Kent, he was also cooking a remix of Mysterious Ways with Brenden Praise for The Colour Purple soundtrack playlist.
“I worked on the remix song of Mysterious Ways with Brenden Praise. My team at Gamma (media company) were the ones working on the logistical possibilities for such a feature,” he tells Drum.
Taking to Instagram, they both shared how honoured they were to be featured in the iconic film’s soundtrack playlist.
Among the others featured on the playlist are H.E.R, Usher, Fantasia, Mary J. Blige, Keyshia Cole, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson, Missy Elliot with Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Fantasia, Ciara, Whoopi Goldberg, Halle Bailey gracing the cast list.
The movie is an adaptation of a 1985 film based on Alice Walker’s award-winning novel which follows the life of an abused African American girl who writes letters to God about life’s turbulences.

At the 55th NAACP Image award ceremony hosted by Queen Latifah in Los Angeles on 16 March, Murdah and Brenden were honoured with an award for Outstanding soundtrack/compilation album.
Speaking exclusively to Drum, the 36-year-old producer and DJ says he knew that the film would do good.
“Honestly, I knew the film would get many nominations in most if not all the big award ceremonies. It’s a huge film with a huge cast and being on the soundtrack with the type of artists that are featured on the album just solidified what I always knew. I mean it is an Oprah Winfrey film.
“It’s a dream of course and means more to know I can carry my music internationally and be recognised for it.”
